Havana squares, colonades, bears & headstones.
Can I just stop and say how much I love my mother? I love mother and I think it is so cool that she brought me with her on the Key West Literary Society trip.
I am biased but I think my whole family is pretty dang cool, but since my mother brought me into the world, she is number one for me. I am first born and my sister Kim is second and so our family circle is small. The bear is a good metaphor for those of us who want a cuddly view of each nation, a happy view that states, as the exhibit of bears suggests, that we are the bears, we appear different on the outside, and our nationality has it’s own unique story filled with symbols of significance, but we are all the same creature.
Gazing out the bus window, it is a blur of beautiful shapes and color. I love seeing the way that architecture that is uniquely Cuban interacts with all those beautiful old American, Czech and Russian cars is like visual poetry in motion. The play of colors alone can distract the eye away from the balconies, colonnades and central squares that is Old Havana.
One hopes that the beautiful cars that make the island so special can be updated to make them more fuel efficient rather than shipped off for sale to the highest bidder!
