Lo Ladies Reunion on Block Island
In 1992 seven women went trekking to Mustang – the forbidden Kingdom of Lo in Nepal. That time period was special as Lo Monthang had been closed to Western tourists for 40 years as the Tibetan Freedom Fighters, known as Khampas, used that area as a base for fighting the communist Chinese who have taken Tibet by force. For twenty-two years we have been gathering together to affirm our connection with each other and to the people and issues of the Tibetan diaspora. Our journey in 1992 was chronicled by Lynn Johnson and Claudia Dowling. The trip was arranged by Nancy Jo Johnson and Dorothy, Miriam, Kate and I rode their coattails.
